Web Wiring versus Human Wiring: The Future of Engineering Software |
| Peter Marks
The future of new product development and the software required to create it depend on an interplay between "human wiring" and "web wiring." Human wiring includes the mechanisms customers use to differentiate between competitive products and services. These fundamental human mechanisms of differentiation change slowly. Web wiring includes the tools used to create and communicate product innovation. Here, the pace of change is frenetic.
The majority of companies, in their rush to exploit the Web, are giving up important degrees of freedom to differentiate. Many are unwittingly turning themselves into commodity suppliers. Find out how companies can use the e-World to gain an enduring competitive advantage, and learn of the world proofs and no-holds-barred predictions.
Peter Marks is Managing Director of Design Insight, e-Design columnist for Computer Aided Engineering magazine, and lead author of "Aligning Technology for Best Business Results." His most recent work focuses on the ways that customers differentiate between competitive products and services. This work has been adopted at the highest levels at companies like IBM and has helped leverage billions of dollars of assets into e-World leadership. |

Discussion Groups |
Test Drive |
Technology Suites |
| These small groups (open to all, but restricted in size) will build on the work begun at The Summit and will present their findings to the general congress. Each group has an assigned Chair who will moderate the discussion; each will select a secretary to keep a record of the discussion. All discussion groups will be audio taped for future reference.
Two-day discussion groups:
One-day discussion groups:
|
Take a "test drive" on the latest systems on the market. New systems will be showcased in a "test-drive theatre." See them in action head-to-head with previous generations.
(Note: In order to test-drive certain systems in the Test Drive Theater, you may be requested to sign a non-disclosure.) |
Many attendees (vendors and others) will be showcasing their strategic visions at COFES 2000. These are private 'Technology Suites' for conversations about technology and strategic futures.
COFES 2000 will set up appointments in the Technology Suites for you, based on the information you provided in the registration form to match you with the suites that hold the technologies and companies that will interest you. Your schedule will be given to you when you arrive.
